Mission Statement

The Middle Passage Commission Corp. will raise funds for the Permanent Memorial to Honor the Victims of Slavery and the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, by various means, including but not limited to; benefit banquets; musical performances; soliciting charitable contributions; bringing public awareness of the Permanent Memorial effort.

Over five centuries, more than 18 million people were forcefully removed from Africa to the Americas (North, Central & South America), including the Caribbean, and Europe.

The Middle Passage Commission Corp. will actively promote awareness of the efforts underway to create this Memorial, as a reminder of the legacy of the slave trade, which will provide future generations with an understanding of the history and consequences of slavery, while serving as an educational tool to raise awareness about the current dangers of racism, prejudice and the lingering consequences that continue to impact the descendants of the victims today.

The Middle Passage Commission Corp. acknowledges one of the most horrific tragedies of modern history.  The Memorial will be a reminder of the heroic actions of the slaves, abolitionists and so many unsung heroes who acted in the face of grave and often fatal danger and adversity.

The Middle Passage Commission Corp. recognizes the Permanent Memorial as a significant symbol of what the United Nations World Body represents: The promotion and preservation to the dignity and worth of all human beings... Principles that are central to its Charter.
